Kayaking

Leave the camps and leisurely maneuver the river to the tide water (2 miles). Once you are in the tide explore the days of yesteryear. Check out the ruins of docks, where the once famous paddle boats tied up when they brought supplies and mail from town. Play among the old lumbering blocks that held thousands of logs during the river drives. Stop on a sandy island and swim before basking in the sun and eating lunch.

Canoeing

If you love the song of the paddle, you will thrill with the exhilaration of white water offered in our back yard. We offer guided trips through the back woods of New Brunswick. Should you not want to paddle, we can arrange for your guide to drop you down the river using the age old art of poling. The only concern on your mind will be is your camera in focus and are you quick enough to snap a shot of the salmon jumping or the birds soaring overhead.

Hiking

At Upper Oxbow, we believe in getting up close with nature. Come with us and explore rocky gorges, listen to the soothing sounds of the water falls, eat lunch by the water. Perhaps some moose birds will come to visit, hoping that you will toss them some bread crumbs. Then, return to your cabin after an exhilarating day to put your feet up and relax.

Beaches

Travel to Kouchibouguac National Park. World renowned for the warmest salt water north of Virginia. Miles of sandy beaches wait. For bird watchers, the park is home to the second largest bird colony in North America as well as many other water fowl. Travel through Baie Ste Anne and enjoy Escuminac and Pointe Sapin on your way to the park. You will enjoy the beautiful scenery as you pass through these small fishing villages. Visit the wharfs where the boats are coming in with their catches. Delve into delicious seafood, fresh from the ocean.
We can arrange your transportation or you can drive yourself.

Other Cultural Outings
Beaubears Island

Through thousands of years and many cultures, the island has stood like a sentinel, marking history in cruel and kind ways. Slicing the mighty Miramichi River into 2 branches it served as a centuries old Mi'kmaq meeting ground for trade and stories of the hunt. The Natives who knew the island well called it Quoomeneegook (pine island)

As war broke out with the English, the expulsion of 1755 was underway, sending Acadiens to find sanctuary throughout North America. Marquis Charles des Champs de Boishebert (from which the island is named) brought thousands of fleeing Acadiens to Beaubears Island and the surrounding lands. Many of these Acadiens perished through starvation and disease while awaiting rescue. By 1760 the entire settlement was in ashes under orders from English commodore John Byron.

Acadian Historical Village

In Caraquet, experience the survival of the expulsion of the Acadians at this living museum from 1755 and delight your appetite with traditional Acadian cuisine.

Other Adventures

We are located in the heart of the Miramichi. Stay with us and day trip for adventures such as whale watching, horse back riding, & visits to Kouchibouguac National Park.
